FACTS:
As many as one in five students have dyslexia (ranging in severity).
Many people who are dyslexic are of average to above average intelligence.
Students with dyslexia Need a unique style of reading instruction.
Undiagnosed or without special instruction, dyslexia can lead to frustration, school failure, and low self-esteem.
More information on dyslexia can be found at:
At Central, we do not diagnose dyslexia. Some of our students have been tested and diagnosed at the Fundamental Learning Center in Wichita, Kansas. At CCS, however, we DO screen struggling students for dyslexic tendencies (with parent approval, of course) and offer our services to students who fit a dyslexic profile.
Central Christian’s Literacy Excellence Program uses two explicit, structured, instructional curriculums, Alphabetic Phonics and Multisensory Reading and Spelling, for students with dyslexia or dyslexic tendencies who are enrolled in the program. Mrs. Stacy Nather directs the program. She and another teacher have been trained as Literacy Intervention Specialists and lead students through the program.
In order to cover the added costs of this specialized instruction, the school board has determined the following fees. These fees cover the salaries of the instructors along with additional materials needed.
If you have an interest in this program, please contact Literacy Services Specialist Stacy Nather.
